One of two species of large (45mm) damselfly in Britain to have obviously
coloured wings. Preferring sandy bottomed streams and rivers.
Males establish territories which they defend
from a bank-side perch.
Females choose the male
with the best site for ovipositing.
Can be found
far from water in sunny wooded glades and meadows,
occasionally sharing the same habitat as the Banded
Demoisellle.
