Take Me To The River

One of our rarer damselflies, preferring base-rich runnels and streams often within acid heathland and chalk stream water meadows.

Males and females usually occur together over suitable stretches of stream with abundant emergent plants, often found away from water among heather and grasses.

The New Forest is a stronghold for this species with several heathland boggy streams holding good populations. They are also found among the ditches and water meadows along the River Test and Itchen, where there is a slight variation from the New Forest populations.
