The Basingstoke Canal has long been favoured as a prime dragonfly location
and is significant for being a hot-spot for the Brilliant Emerald. The
problem is where to look. In summer 2011 a friend invited me kayaking down
a stretch which helped give me an insight as we passed open stretches and
reeded margins.
I returned to the spot during
2012 after studying the map and although the day was
overcast I did get to see a few common species. Further
research pointed me further west to the area bordering
Farnborough Airfield, but after a few days of further
exploring I've since moved on to more productive
locations.
