A common and attractive damselfly found in a wide range of lowland habitats
including brackish or polluted water. Usually seen in great numbers at lakes, ponds etc with plenty of bank-side
foliage.
Males patrol short sections of open water, but
are more likely encountered perched among reeds and
other foliage along with the females.
Females have five differing
immature colour
forms which can make them a real challenge to identify, especially as two
of these colour forms are the same as the two different colour forms of
the male.
